Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor

Biography - "I believe that every person has a need to belong, we can find the courage to be imperfect, and healing involves trying to balance the tasks of life (love, friendship, and work)."

Tia AndersonAs a Child and Family Therapist, I practice from a system-based lens which recognizes the importance of family and the contributions all members can make to help create a healthy and functional family system.  As an Adlerian-trained therapist, I believe that every person has a need to belong, we can find the courage to be imperfect, and healing involves trying to balance the tasks of life (love, friendship, and work).  I believe play is the language of children, and it can be incorporated to help children express and process their feelings.

I specialize in working with children aged 5 and older, providing non-directive play therapy to assist them in telling their stories, processing trauma, and healing from difficult childhood experiences. I also work with adolescents, young adults, and families with a range of diagnoses and presenting issues.

I utilize acceptance/commitment, behavioral, cognitive-behavioral, strengths-based, and solution-focused approaches to therapy.  I have experience working with anxiety, depression, life transitions, attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD), disruptive mood dysregulation disorder, trauma, and many other diagnoses and life stressors.

I believe that each of my clients has the capability to overcome any challenge life presents them, and each person can take an active role in using coping skills and wellness strategies to be both the painter and canvas in their own lives.  As Adler put it, "Meanings are not determined by situations, but we determine ourselves by the meanings we give to situations."
