Some of our therapists are trained in Somatic Experiencing® (SE). SE is a scientifically-based system of healing techniques designed to help you calm down after a stressful event(s), as well as relieve the symptoms of ongoing and chronic stress.
All animals, including humans, have a series of survival responses built into their central nervous system. Stressful events and chronic stress can cause your survival response to get stuck. You can experience symptoms such as anxiety, depression, obsessive thoughts, anger issues, or sleep difficulties. You may find it difficult to relax enough to be able to participate and enjoy relationships, or just life in general.
A stuck survival response can also cause physical issues such as headaches, intestinal issues, chronic pain, and sexual dysfunctions. All of these can be symptoms that your nervous system hasn’t fully calmed down.
